Networking for Introverts: Why does it have to be so hard? (Career Event #23)

Career experts advise that 70 to 80% of all jobs are found through networking. For those of us who are introverts this can be a challenge. Learn how to demonstrate energy and enthusiasm authentically.

Description:  Career experts advise that 70 to 80% of all jobs are found through networking.  In addition, these same experts suggest that all of us should be continually networking and expanding our network while we are working in a position. This is certainly true at the executive level. For those of us who are introverts this can be a challenge.  We live in an extroverted culture.  No one runs a workshop on how to be more introverted.

My experience in the last 12 years of working with executives in transition is that introverts have important strengths to bring to the networking process. This interactive presentation will define what networking is and what it is not.  It will discuss the strengths of introverts and the perceptions that introverts and extroverts have of one another.  We will identify networking strategies and techniques that can make the process more comfortable and rewarding.

One of the key obstacles many of us as introverts have is how to demonstrate energy and enthusiasm authentically.  We will engage in a short exercise to illustrate how to find this authenticity.

Speaker:  Dan Shepard, Partner, Essex Partners, specializes in executive job search strategy and execution. In addition, he has a recognized expertise in career change and renewal along with reconfiguring life balance.
