Essential Employment Law for Managers (Career Event #24)

This workshop will consider employment from the manager's perspective. For example: Balancing a company's right to confidential information with an employee's right to change jobs; non-competition agreements; and common legal pitfalls for managers .

Description:  This workshop will look at employment law from the perspective of key concerns of managers, including:  How does the law balance the right of a company to protect its confidential information against the right of a manager to change jobs?  How do non-competition agreements work?  What are common legal pitfalls for managers exercising their supervisory responsibilities?  What limits does the law place on the right of an employer to fire? 

Speaker:  John Akula teaches at MIT Sloan, where he has primary responsibility for the law curriculum.  John graduated from Harvard Law School, clerked for a justice of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court, and practiced law for 15 years.  He was a partner at a leading national law firm before returning to the academic world, where he then taught at Harvard and MIT.  He is heavily involved in MIT Sloan’s international and executive education programs.
