From the President...

Dear Fellow Alumni,

This was truly the best year ever for Sloan Alumni and our Boston Alumni Association. We set records in all of our events. We had more events than we have ever held before.  Our engagement is up and the alumni are enjoying the great programing that this volunteer group from our Board bringst o you every year.

Before reviewing 2018, I would like to mention that we have a new goal this year.  Two years ago we launched Interest Groups, and they are thriving today by engaging alumni in a deeper way.  However, with rising costs and unprecedented attendance at our events, we are looking for sponsors for the MIT Sloan Boston Alumni Association in 2019.  We would like to keep costs down, membership free, and the quality of our programming high.  So, if you know of great companies, firms, or others in the local Boston community that would like a deeper relationship with us and our Alumni, please reach out to me or anyone on the Board to learn how they can sponsor an event series or the Association itself!

Now onto our amazing 2018!  This year we grew the number of events we hosted by 43% for 53 total events!

We had ~3,000 attendees across all events in2018.  Our two largest events were a smashing success this year:

·      The 16th Annual CFO Summit, held in November, included 600 corporate finance professionals that heard from the CFOs of Adobe,, Boston Beer and DocuSign, among others.

·      The 15th Annual CIO Symposium, held in May, hosted 900 IT professionals who heard from the CIOs of Federal Reserve Bank, Boston Private, Draft Kings, Land O’Lakes, Inc. and Tradeweb with 17 MIT and Sloan researchers & professors.

We continued to grow all of our Interest Groups by building out interesting programming in:

·      Career Series:  We held another 10 Career Series events this year. November saw the 70th event in the series which has served over 1,000 alumni over the last 12 years!

·      Entrepreneurship: We held networking and panel events, including a discussion with Sherwin Greenblatt, President Emeritus of Bose Corp. and Director of MIT Venture Mentoring Service, and two Founder’s Therapy Roundtable discussions. This continues the great work we have done over the last four years in connecting entrepreneurs across MIT Sloan.

·      Life Sciences: We hosted 2 networking receptions, bringing together around 50 people to share ideas, and network.  And we plan to host three 2019 Life Sciences networking opportunities.

·      Women’s Events: We have been active in connecting women from several alumni groups to work together across MIT initiatives to support the growth of women in building their professional network and advancement.  We held 10 Wine and Women Wednesdays events at the Avery Bar, Ritz-Carlton.

Please consider the opportunities to sponsor each of these event series by speaking me or one of our board members!

We continued to focus on strengthening our Board.  This year we welcomed two student liaisons to our board – Sam Kittross-Schnell, MBA ’19 and Sahil Vivek Joshi, MBA ’19.  And we have elected a slate of new officers to continue the great work of this organization including Nick Holda as Vice President, Kara Kelley as Assistant Vice President, Christopher Reichert as Deputy Treasurer, Mark Crowley as Assistant Treasurer, and Joanna Eldridge as Vice President, Human Resources. Join me in wishing them much success!  With these new additions on the board and the closer ties with students, we will better serve the entire alumni community in 2019.  Please reach out to our board members or myself with ideas on how to shape our future together.

We wish you all a happy and successful 2019!

Best regards,

Jeff Uller, MBA ‘03
