Jeanne Ross, Moderator @mit_cisr
Director and Principal Research Scientist
Center for Information Systems Research

 

Jeanne W. Ross directs and conducts academic research that targets the challenges of senior level executives at CISR's more than eighty global sponsor companies. She studies how firms develop competitive advantage through the implementation and reuse of digitized platforms. Her work has appeared in major practitioner and academic journals, including MIT Sloan Management Review, Harvard Business Review, The Wall Street Journal, MISQ Executive, MIS Quarterly, the Journal of Management Information Systems, IBM Systems Journal, and CIO Magazine.

She is co-author of three books: IT Savvy: What Top Executives Must Know to Go from Pain to Gain (2009), Enterprise Architecture as Strategy: Creating a Foundation for Business Execution (2006) through Harvard Business School Press, and IT Governance: How Top Performers Manage IT Decision Rights for Superior Results (2004). She has served on the faculty of customized courses for a number of major corporations, including PepsiCo, McKinsey, General Electric, TRW, Pfizer, News Corporation, Commonwealth Bank of Australia, IBM, and Credit Suisse. She regularly appears as a speaker at major conferences for IT executives.

Jeanne earned a BA at the University of Illinois, an MBA from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, and a PhD in Management Information Systems from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. She is a founding senior editor and former editor in chief of MIS Quarterly Executive.

David Chaos

Santander Bank USA

David started his career in 1999 as a technical director of the EspaNix, the Internet Exchange Hub in Madrid where he was able to participate in the design and implementation of the centralized infrastructure for all the main Internet carriers. He also participated in the implementation of the first Internet DNS root server in Spain.

In 2002 he joined Eurociber first as CIO and later as CEO. Eurociber was an IT company mainly dedicated to provide Internet services to both end users and businesses. Eurociber was an affiliate company of Banesto, one of the main financial companies of Spain at the time.

From 2005 through 2013 David worked for Produban, a Banco Santander IT affiliate company where, as the IT Infrastructure Managing Director until 2009, he was responsible for the overall management of the Santander Data Centers in Spain, UK, Mexico and Brazil. He had the opportunity to actively participate in the design of the new Data Centers for Spain and Brazil and create the international high capacity network for Santander. In 2009 David was appointed General Manager of Produban US. David led a team of 400+ IT professionals from several locations both in US and Mexico, integrated by Network engineering teams, System Engineering, IT Operations and software implementation.

In 2013, David was invited to lead the IT organization as the CIO of Santander Bank USA. Since his appointment, David has lead the implementation of a new Internet mobile app for the bank, rebranded all the systems into Santander Bank from the former Sovereign Bank denomination, participated in several initiatives to improve productivity in the branch offices using IT, and implemented an enhanced Information Security program for the bank.

John Daley @deputyDALEY 
Chief Technology Officer
Boston Police Department

Deputy Superintendent John Daley attended UMASS-Boston as well as the National Judicial College. Mr. Daley started with the Boston Police Department as a Police Officer in 1983. Promoted in 1991 to Sergeant working in the Gang Unit. Promoted to Sergeant Detective in 1994 working with the Drug Control Unit, Bureau of Investigative Services, Intelligence Unit, Gang Unit, and Boston Regional Intelligence Center (BRIC). In 2007, John Daley was promoted to Lieutenant. In 2007, promoted to Deputy Superintendent and commander of the Operations Division. And most recently in 2011, selected to be the Boston PD Chief Technology Officer.

Drew Farris
CIO Advisor
Former Chief Information Officer, TriMark USA

Drew Farris is currently serving in a CIO Advisory / Executive Consultant role managing global projects for companies including Hitachi and Infor. Prior to this role, he served for four years as the Chief Information Officer for TriMark USA, the largest provider of restaurant equipment and services in the country with revenues of approximately $1 Billion.

Prior to TriMark, Drew undertook a similar project at Navico, a global manufacturer of marine electronics formed by a private equity team in Norway. With the goal of bringing 5 newly acquired global companies into one common set of operating processes and forming one larger single operating entity, he successfully led teams in America, Mexico, Asia/ Pacific and Europe from a variety of disciplines.

Drew has also served as Chief Operating Officer of APPS Associates, a global ERP/ BI solutions provider; Chief Information Officer of Iron Age Corporation, another private equity funded turn-around project; Chief Information Officer of The Target Companies; and IS Director at Nantucket Nectars. He has significant experience managing operations and technology at private equity backed companies going through business life-cycle changes with a particular focus on manufacturing, distribution and retail enterprises."

Mr. Farris is a member of the Boston Chapter of the Society for Information Management. He has been a member of their Board of Directors and was elected to serve as the Chair of the regional CIO Roundtable.

Julian Jung @julianmjung

Investor, Drizly

Julian Jung is the founder and CEO of Tablelist. Prior to founding Tablelist, Julian was a real estate broker specializing in high end real estate sales/rentals and investment property. While an undergrad at Northeastern University, Julian executed over $500K in rental transactions and sold over $30M in investment property. Julian is also an investor in Boston based alcohol delivery company Drizly Inc, and Cambridge based restaurant, Alden and Harlow, which was named Boston Best Restaurant 2014 by Boston Magazine.

Jonathan Klein @jonathanbklein

Cimation

Jonathan Klein is Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer at Cimation, an operations consulting company delivering secure technology solutions to the global energy industry. As CEO, his key responsibilities include shaping Cimation's company vision, overseeing all of its core business functions, recruiting key talent, developing contract strategies, and forming partnerships with vendors, subcontractors, and OEMs. Since co-founding the company in 2009, Jonathan has helped Cimation maintain a steep growth trajectory, increasing revenue by more than 800% in less than five years.

Jonathan has more than ten years' experience in automation and controls engineering, much of which has been spent in corporate leadership and management roles. During his time at Audubon Engineering, he served as lead instrument and automation engineer on numerous upstream, offshore projects before going on to start Cimation.

Jonathan is the recipient of multiple awards, including Forbes's America's Most Promising CEO's Under 35, Ernst & Young's Entrepreneur of the Year Finalist, and OGM Magazine's Up & Coming list. He holds a BSEE in Electrical Engineering from Louisiana State University.

Alasdair McLean-Foreman @Teikametrics

As the Chief Executive Officer, Alasdair is responsible for Teikametrics' overall business strategy and day-to-day operations. Alasdair founded an e-commerce company in his dorm-room which grew into a multi-million dollar company selling high-end sporting goods. He also founded the weight loss and fitness company Traineo and has built and provided e-commerce solutions to large organizations including Newscorp, The Times of London, L'Oreal, and The New York Marathon.

Alasdair earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics at Harvard University where he was captain of the Track and Field Team and a member of the Great Britain and England national track teams.

Tony Scott
Chief Information Officer
VMware USA

Tony Scott leads VMware's global information technology (IT) group. The group manages critical technology systems supporting the company's worldwide business operations and is responsible for advancing and protecting VMware information assets helping the company meet the IT needs of more than 500,000 customers. Since joining in August 2013, Scott has been focused on the effective use of IT to drive innovation and bring improved agility and efficiency to business operations as well as driving initiatives to develop, test and showcase VMware products and technology.

A respected industry veteran, Scott brings more than 35 years of experience running global IT operations for leading corporations.

Earlier Scott served as chief information officer (CIO) at Microsoft, overseeing all aspects of the company's information technology organization and enterprise digital supply chain. Prior to Microsoft, he served as CIO at The Walt Disney Company, responsible for corporate and companywide shared service functions including enterprise-wide application development and support. Scott also served as the Chief Technology Officer of Information Systems & Services at General Motors Corporation.

A member of CIO magazine's CIO Hall of Fame, Scott holds a bachelor's degree in information systems management from the University of San Francisco and a Juris Doctorate from Santa Clara University.
