“Preparing for the “The New ‘Retirement’” (#99)

The idea of “Retirement Planning” has usually referred to the financial aspects of retirement. While finances are a critical component, there are other aspects of preparation that make for a fulfilling retirement.

While the older view of retirement evoked visions of pure leisure, the excitement about having more personal time is often tempered by worries over losing the intellectual engagement, sense of purpose and/or the status that characterizes many professional lives.  However, rather than an either/or between "leisure" and "engagement", the newer vision of retirement often represents a portfolio of multiple goals and endeavors. Like one's financial portfolio, building a strong retirement "portfolio" takes some planning. In this session Howard Seidel will discuss how to plan for a varied and stimulating retirement.

Howard Seidel, Senior Partner, leads the Essex Partners practice, a division of Keystone Partners, and works with executive clients across a wide range of industries. With over 25 yearsʼ experience, Howard has guided hundreds of executives with his in-depth knowledge of the strategic and tactical elements of career coaching, career transition, and career change. Before moving to Essex, Howard was a VP at Keystone Partners. Previously, Howard served in various roles at Electronic Data Systems (EDS), including helping build the companyʼs first external change management practice. Additionally, Howard spent three years as a Manager at Andersen Consulting (now Accenture). Howard has achieved national recognition for his insights on career matters, being interviewed by various media outlets including Inc. and the Wall Street Journal. He has also appeared as a career expert for New England Cable News (NECN).
