Conflict: A Conversation with General David Petraeus
   
The Adam Smith Society will be hosting a conversation with David Petraeus, retired four-star general, former director of the CIA, and partner in the global investment firm KKR. Interviewed by Professor Andrew Lo.

Interviewed by Professor Andrew Lo, General Petraeus will be discussing the themes in his recent book, Conflict: The Evolution of Warfare from 1945 to Ukraine, coauthored with Andrew Roberts. The event begins at 11:00 am in Wong Auditorium (E51-115) and will last approximately one hour. General Petraeus will be available to sign copies of his book after the event concludes.

General David H. Petraeus is a Partner in the global investment firm KKR and Chairman of the KKR Global Institute. He served over 37 years in the U.S. military, culminating his career with six consecutive commands as a general officer, five of which were in combat. Following his military service, he served as Director of the CIA during a period of significant achievements in the Global War on Terror. He is also a member of the boards of directors of Optiv and OneStream, a Strategic Advisor of Semperis, Co-Chairman of the International Advisory Board of Advanced Navigation, a personal venture capitalist, a Visiting Fellow/Lecturer at Yale University, a speaker with the Washington Speakers Bureau, and co-author with Andrew Roberts of the forthcoming book, "Conflict."

Dr. Andrew Lo is the Charles E. and Susan T. Harris Professor, a Professor of Finance, and the Director of the Laboratory for Financial Engineering at the MIT Sloan School of Management. His current research spans three areas: evolutionary models of investor behavior and adaptive markets, quantitative models of financial markets, and healthcare finance. He has published extensively in academic journals and his most recent book is Adaptive Markets: Financial Evolution at the Speed of Thought. His awards include Batterymarch, Guggenheim, and Sloan Fellowships; the Paul A. Samuelson Award; the Eugene Fama Prize; the IAFE-SunGard Financial Engineer of the Year; the Global Association of Risk Professionals Risk Manager of the Year; the Harry M. Markowitz Award; the Managed Futures Pinnacle Achievement Award; one of TIME’s “100 most influential people in the world”; and awards for teaching excellence from both Wharton and MIT.

In addition, Dr. Lo is the founder of AlphaSimplex Group, a quantitative investment management company based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and served as its chairman and chief investment strategist until 2018 when he transitioned to his current role as chairman emeritus and senior advisor. AlphaSimplex specializes in quantitative global macro and global tactical asset allocation strategies, beta-replication products, and absolute-return risk analytics.
